bird watching, camping, and more bird watching.

As a birthday treat Evs took me on an adventure for the weekend. We decided to stay in Wales. We often drive up through Wales on our way to conventions and are always in awe of the landscape but unfortunately never have a chance to stop.

Our first stop was the red kite feeding station Rhayader. One of the best experiences of my life. I never would of thought that these enormous beautiful birds would be so close. Everyone should go. It costs just £4, I would pay a lot more than that.

We went to Aberystwyth for chips and ice cream and a paddle in the sea. We spotted a couple of noisy oyster catchers feeding amongst the rock pools. The are so beautiful with their long bright orange beaks. It was the first time I had seen them, but not the first time we saw them over the weekend.

We drove south a little to Aberaeron we camped right by the beach. We watched the swifts and house martins flying around the fields and shore line and also got to watch six oyster catchers gathering their supper. The sun set as we played a game of making pebble towers and taking it in turns to knock them over with little pebbles. Its a good game, I discovered I do have a competitive side.

It was a lovely first day of our adventure.

The second day was a chilly one. We got up early and headed up north to the centre for alternative technology. The water-balanced cliff railway was pretty exciting, I could tell Evs really enjoyed it also. The centre is really inspiring and made me want to build my own home! I love my dream world.

We didn't know what we were going to do next so decided to drive back south and find something along the way. We stopped off at the Welsh wildlife centre. It was such a surprise. Each of the windows of the different hides, frames a different view of  the beautiful landscape. We got to see grey herons fishing, black headed gulls paddling, shell ducks and canada geese cleaning, mallards nesting and water buffalo grazing!
That evening we camped at St Davids. We positioned our tent looking out over the water so we could lay in the tent and look out over the cliffs and the sea. We spent what was left of the sunlight drawing and reading.
The next morning, again, we woke up early and decided to do to Cardiff for the day, to have a little look around and to go to wagamamas, my favourite. It was the perfect end to a perfect weekend away.
